30 oktober 2014 | UNICEF and partners | The Research Consortium on Education and Peacebuilding is a new partnership which aims to contribute to research, policy and practice in the fields of education, conflict and peacebuilding.
Learning for Peace

‘Learning for Peace’ – the four-year Peacebuilding, Education and Advocacy Programme (PBEA) – is a partnership between UNICEF, the Government of the Netherlands, the national governments of 14 participating countries and other key supporters.  It is an innovative, cross-sectoral programme focusing on education and peacebuilding. The stated goal of the Learning for Peace programme is to strengthen resilience, social cohesion and human security in conflict-affected contexts, including countries at risk of, or experiencing and recovering from, conflict.

The Research Consortium

Between July 2014 and December 2015 the Research Consortium on Education and Peacebuilding, a partnership between UNICEF and the University of Amsterdam, the University of Sussex and Ulster University, will address one of the PBEA key objectives  – ‘contributing to the generation and use of evidence and knowledge in policies and programming related to education, conflict and peacebuilding’.

The consortium will carry out research on three thematic areas:

  • The Integration of Education into Peacebuilding processes at global and country levels
  • The Role of Teachers in Peacebuilding
  • The Role of Formal and Non Formal Peacebuilding Education Programmes Focusing on Youth.

The Consortium believes that by carrying out targeted research in these three areas we can assist policy makers, practitioners and academics working in the fields of education, peacebuilding and international development.  Alongside core reports addressing the three thematic areas, the consortium will release regular Briefings and Updates as the research progresses during 2015.
